Added some images and additional parts. To strengthen and make my loop made from folded copper sheet easier to carry, I created a center pin and brackets that are easy to disassemble and pack. Sizing may vary, so test print or redesign as needed. Most parts can be found or modified on the Tinkercad site by searching for my call sign. I also added a simple bracket to attach the loop to the rails of my FT-817. The electrical design is not my original idea but was found online at various places including https://k1fm.us/2015/07/k1fm-mini-magnetic-loop-2-0/. I appreciate Alain's site and project. I added a reduction gear with a 5:1 ratio to help tuning, giving about 2.5 turns of the original 1/2 turn of the varicap. Magnets are placed in the base and front to attach it on top of my FT-817 in either direction. A small window is added for a scale on top of the main gear to aid rough tuning. I'm using this capacitor: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Gang-AM-FM-Variable-Capacitor-266pF-X-2-and-20pF-X-2-500pF-Total/113059337104?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144 and various parts from the junk box. For the loop, I'm using 1-2mm copper wire - though inefficient it works for a range of ~10-40m. Now using 40mm wide copper strip folded in the middle to get it sturdier, covered in heatshrink tubing, and ends soldered to plugs, see images.
