Mini printable filament reel / spool
thingiverse
This small filament reel is ideal for minimal quantities of filament and prints quickly on a 150x150 bed size. Section (a) retains the filament, while section (b) serves as the end cap. I have also created an alternative version of part (b), complete with a filled-in area for labeling purposes - feel free to choose whichever design you prefer. The filament reel is fully printable without interruption to obtain a 3cm wide result, or it can be paused at any point. My photograph showcases a 2cm-stopped reel holding approximately 10-15m of filament. Features: 80mm diameter cylinder for efficient winding to prevent damage; 37mm central hole allowing for effortless fitting without movement; The centre hole for filament initiates the winding process; A smaller filament hole at the edge to secure the roll when complete (the spokes also assist in locking the end of the filament). A freecad source file is available if you wish to customize sizes or aspects. Note: I utilized fixer from netfabb to optimize export, since stl generated through slic3r (version 1.2.9) neglected some parts otherwise. Instructions I used a combination of two outer layers and two solid inner layers with 25% filling for printing. Suggest adjusting your extrusion width to .5mm as it guarantees exact sizes for the central cylinders within the reel, both with 1.5mm thick walls. Following completion, print parts one and two before gently smoothing out imperfections on each part prior to pressing them together - you will notice a tight seal without needing any additional fastening or adhesive.
