In the summer of 2018, I embarked on a fun project and a new challenge by designing a compact LASER burner. It took me exactly three months to complete it. My goal was to create a device that could engrave anything in any position. That meant it had to be able to burn intricate designs onto t-shirts, tapestries, phones, books, walls, ceilings, car hoods, and more - all while being entirely portable. I'm pleased with the progress I've made so far. Today, my LASER burner can successfully engrave on walls and cars, but it still struggles with ceiling engravings due to internal mechanical limitations. In addition to engravings, this device can also cut through paper and even 5mm thick honeycomb in a single pass - albeit at a speed of just 1mm per second. The cutting speed tops out at 3mm per second. My LASER burner accepts drawing file formats like GCODE or PNG, JPG, BMP. That's right; it can burn images as well. However, generating a GCODE file requires an extra step: I use INKSCAPE and its built-in GCODE generation extensions to get the job done. For those interested in learning more about this process, J-Tech Photonics offers a comprehensive guide. A user-friendly graphical interface makes it easy to operate my LASER burner, allowing for quick and simple engravings.
