Mini Plywood Boat Rudder

Mini Plywood Boat Rudder

I am currently building a small plywood boat and needed a rudder that would fit its specifications perfectly. The boat measures 2 meters long and 80 centimeters wide, making it ideal for smooth turns. To make the rudder more robust, I added epoxy to the wood, ensuring it could withstand various conditions. One of the best things about this design is that it can be easily modified by adding more segments to the rudder holder, allowing me to adjust its size as needed. The main shaft is made from M8 stainless threaded rod, which provides excellent durability and resistance to corrosion. I used 8 internal and 18 external bearings from eBay for a smooth interaction between the moving rudder and fixed attachment. The parts are securely held in place by nuts, preventing any movement or looseness. The distance between the two mounting holes is set at 180 millimeters. If needed, I can modify this design to include custom bearing holes and distances, but I'm generally satisfied with its base design and confident it will perform well under my specific usage conditions. I would like to give credit to "Bouton_de_serrage_M8" for the original design, which can be found on Thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1865629.
