I was asked by my sister to whip up dozens of mini pies for her party, and I knew from past experience that cutting out a circle from the dough would result in a fluted shape when shaped into a pie, which wastes a lot of dough and produces a crust that's too thick. So, after some trial and error, along with a healthy dose of math, I designed and built a cutter that creates a perfectly round pie with an even top. To take it to the next level, I also created a cup-shaped mandrel for shaping the pies. And voila! A batch of uniform mini pies was born.
