Mini Lathe DRO No Mod
thingiverse
This is a DRO setup for the "Chinese" Mini Lathe by SIEG, which is re-sold by many others. I've got a Grizzly 8688 7x12 Mini Lathe. This design is a remix of siderits and ToFe's projects that I listed as remixes from. The DRO setup siderits was really good, but it was too loose. ToFe made a rail stop and caliper holder which had a perfect alignment with the rails. So I took the perfect rail alignment from ToFe and the great DRO setup from siderits and combined them both. Thanks guys for the great work! In order to clip these on, you'll need to drill and tap the holes as siderits' project suggests, then slide them on the rails from the bottom up, not top down. They should fit fairly snug especially once the upper portion is aligned in the rail way path. Feel free to check out my other mini lathe mods, but otherwise enjoy! 7x12 Mini Lathe Way Rail Chip Guard Brush Mounts http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1905502 7x12 Mini-Lathe Apron Hand Wheel Gear Chip Guard http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1905460 UPDATE: Apparently I need to check my layers! You get so comfy with a 3D view, but the layers/slices show you if anything is broken.... Sorry, but I fixed the broken layers. Blender and booleans only work so well.... I also kept siderits' original bottoms because I found that although mine slip on easily and hold, once you apply the lateral force from the set screw, it offsets the piece and will not clamp correctly. Now it works, albeit the modded rail clamp that sits in the rails better is pushed up and away from the set screw so it makes it pointless unless you shim the bottom of the clamps. That will give you a flat setup too vs. the slightly angled one you'd get without shims on this.
