Date: September 22nd, 2018 Update: Added "Mini Lathe Assy (CX704) - With DRO and ball turner" RAR file containing X and Z DRO installation design and radius turning tool design. This addition was requested by a YouTube viewer; however, the file can only be accessed in Solidworks format as a STEP conversion couldn't be accomplished. Note that the "Mini Lathe Assy (CX704).SLDASM" included is incomplete. To access all files, refer to the RAR archive. The Craftex model CX704 minilathe design, common among hobbyists, closely resembles the Sieg design, model CX2. The author has developed their own version of a 7x12 minilathe based on this design, which can be found under various brand names but with limited design variations and interchangeable components. A comprehensive list of similar brands can be found in the "replacement parts" section of littlemachineshop.com. The author's intention is to modify the minilathe by installing DROs, creating custom tools, and potentially converting it to CNC later. To achieve this, they have created a precise and complete Solidworks 2014 model of the lathe, which they believe may be useful for other hobbyists. They encourage users to share and utilize the model as needed. The minilathe model was built with a "flat" approach, minimizing sub-assemblies (such as tool holders, chucks, and electrical wires) and organizing components within folders. The main modifiable constraints are named for easy identification, and most references should work or be easily fixed. A STEP file has also been added with assistance from Daniel Escobedo. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns, and the author plans to update the model as modifications are implemented.
