Mini-ITX NAS Open Frame

This is an ultra-modular open-frame chassis design perfectly suited for a mini-ITX based NAS or home server. The compact chassis measures 30.4 cm x 22.8 cm x 22.8 cm and can accommodate: - A full-fledged ATX power supply unit - A mini ITX motherboard - Up to five 3.5" hard disk drives (bracket holes are spaced for one, two, three, four, or five) - Up to three 2.5" hard disk drives or solid-state drives This makes it the most compact mini-itx case that can handle eight drives and a full-fledged ATX power supply. Notes: - The current design is not intended to accommodate any extra PCI cards but can be easily modified. For large video cards, you will need to extend the frame by using tubes that are 240mm long instead of 20mm. You might require designing an additional bracket to hold everything in place. - The illustrations show a setup with two 3.5" hard disk drive rails on top. If you have more than two drives, I strongly recommend printing two more rails and adding two 12 mm crossbars to support the drives from below. This ultra-modular design uses 12 mm tubes or rods and is based on my 12mm Tube Frame Connector Kit (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3046297) with the following additional components: - Two 2.5" hard disk drive brackets (fits above the power supply) - Four 3.5" hard disk drive brackets (two or four with extra crossbars if you have more than two drives) - Power supply support (fits underneath the power supply) - One or two 120 mm fan brackets depending on how you want to fit it - A faceplate for LEDs, power, and reset buttons. You will need the following lengths of 12 mm diameter aluminum tubes: - Four 273mm long tubes (horizontal X axis) - Six 200mm long tubes (vertical Z axis) or longer if you need clearance for a large CPU cooler - Six 200mm long tubes (horizontal Y axis) or longer if you need clearance for a long video card - Two 200 mm tubes if you want to fit the optional crossbars to support more than two 3.5" hard disk drives. From the 120mm tube connector kit, you will require: - Eight three-corner connectors - Four four-T pieces - Two three-T pieces for the optional crossbars - A large number of clips (print them by the dozen!) The entire system is designed to be highly customizable based on your specific requirements. You can disassemble it, modify it, reassemble the parts, and so on. It's also possible to add side panels to convert the open frame design into a closed case if desired. In addition, you will need: - An assortment of PC case screws (for example: http://a.co/8Wi3nHZ) - LEDs, power, and reset buttons (for example: http://a.co/injxW3I) - M2.5x6mm self-tapping screws for the 12 mm frame connectors.
