Mini DVD/CD-ROM Based Printer

Mini DVD/CD-ROM Based Printer

This is a design for a 3D printer that leverages stepper motors from discarded CD drives and an Arduino board to create a unique printing solution. To bring this project to life, you'll need to modify the original mounting brackets by cutting and bending them to accommodate the stepper motors, while also securing the leadscrew within custom-printed mounts. A reliable bed and levelling system will be essential for achieving smooth prints. My initial design was met with disappointment when I realized that most e-waste printer designs offered incredibly small build spaces, so I set out to create something better. The end result should provide a substantial build volume of approximately 150mm cubed. The X gantry has been designed specifically to accommodate an E3D v6 hotend, ensuring seamless integration with this popular extruder design. For optimal results, it's recommended that the printed parts be refined at high resolution, sanded down to perfection, and sealed with a durable epoxy finish. A light application of lubricant will also help keep the printer running smoothly over time.
