Mini Drum Sander
thingiverse
This is a DIY drum sander project that lets me sand small parts with just my impact driver/hand drill power. The design focuses on using a 1/4 sheet to minimize paper waste. The sheet wraps around the drum, and then a wedge (still being worked out) is inserted into the slot in the drum to keep it tight. Parts needed: * 2 Walls * 2 Bearing Clamps * 2 Bearings with 1/2" ID, 1-1/8" OD, and 5/16 thickness * 1 Shelf * 1 Drum * 1 Hex Drive * Many bolts and washers in various lengths (10-32 or 10-24) * A plywood base to attach the walls Concerns: * I've left 5-thou tolerances in most parts, hoping it's just right for no play, but also allowing for some level adjustment between the drum and bearings if needed. Blue-tape can be used strategically around parts of the bearings to raise one side by a few thou. * Using the hex-drive is convenient, but controlling the drill-driver with one hand might make using this tool too hard. I've made the driver-part a plug that goes into the drum with a large hex-insert, so new drive mechanisms can be designed if needed. * I plan to put the table in place and lock it down against the walls from the sides in the slot, but this doesn't allow for micro-adjustment. Suggestions on developing a micro-adjust mechanism are welcome.
