This is a simple activated charcoal air filter/odor eliminator I thought I’d use in conjunction with my 3D printer. In the end, I exhausted the air from the 3D printer to the outside. I found this almost silent little machine served me better at my design desk as it emits a calming, white noise ( yes, I have tinnitus, and am diagnosed with severe hearing loss so it may be louder to your ears - watch the video to gauge noise level) from the fan in addition to filtering/deodorizing the surrounding air. Even though my workspace is clean and free from constantly polluting devices, I keep it running continuously, and although it does take a little desktop real estate, which I am a stickler about conserving, it is well worth the space it occupies. It is designed with Fusion 360. A discerning eye will see the fillet applied to the outside corners of the bin and not the inside corners of the lid containing the fan. The reason for this was because the 3D printer, at least in my particular case, seems to deposit more filament on the corners as it makes that 90° turn. So the fillet exists to make it a little bit easier to separate the fan body from the filter body at filter change time. You will need: 1. DSB0912M fan, available for buttons on some of the auction sites, or in my case, a remnant scavenged from a now obsolete computer. 2. 5.5mm 12 volt chassis mount jack. 3. A wall wart capable of at least .19 amps of current. 4. Activated charcoal filter media of sheet variety also available on the auctions sites and I’m happy with 1/4 inch thickness lining the inside of the filter bin in one continuous and slightly overlapping loop. Or you can cut 4 pieces of activated charcoal filter and butt them up against each other. 5. And last but not least, a 3D printer. Use any type filament you like but PLA works for me. 6. #6 x 1/4 inch screws, the holes are tapped for them but the fit is so snug, I don’t use them. It’s not like the thing is going anywhere. For those visiting in the my work area prone to flatulence, this little device shines. Like I’ve said before, my models aren’t sexy, they’re utilitarian.EDIT: A good "friend" of mine at OSHA reminded me a fan should never me exposed and suggested I make a shroud for the purifier. So here is a fan shroud with a little optical illusion included in the design.
