This is primarily for halting the cut at precise lengths. I've reduced its height slightly as metal cutting generates extremely high temperatures, hot enough to melt the plastic extension. Additionally, I couldn't achieve an exact level regardless of how much I adjusted the height setting; it was either too high or too low. You'll need to tap the two bolt down holes with a M6x1 tap.
