I put mini apple kitchen tables through a test. I grabbed branches for their seeds and interesting looks. They were lying around, and while doing other work, they caught my eye as pretty. I wanted a feature-free background, so I had them on hand. Unfortunately, the featureless background created problems with white cling-ons, even though good side shots were provided. I think the wooden table might have prevented this issue, and the white wouldn't be there if I hadn't used those cards for a "nice clean" background. Shooting the table surface first and then adding the branch seems worth considering. Alternatively, shooting the background separately would allow it to be included without the white shadow edge effect.
