People have been mining coal and other minerals from the ground since the beginning of time. As a model railroader, I wanted to include a scene in my layout that provided a rustic, yet industrial esthetic. I based this model off of mining operations that were common in Appalachia in the early 1900s.
I decided to break the model into parts so that it would be more customizable depending on how you would like to place it in your layout or display. These files are for the Sorting Tower. The buildings are HO scale and are designed around standard ore cars. I included some pictures of how I have the full mine set up in my Christmas layout. To print the structures, I used Amoleon Red Wood PLA and gray Hyper PLA for the roofs, then painted the trim work white.
