This unique drinking vessel, known as a miner's bottle ('drinkblik' in Dutch), was used extensively underground within the mines. Specifically designed for use during this era, it dates back to the 1930s. Each miner would bring their own drinking container from home and have it filled at the mine with beverages such as water, coffee, tea, or milk. Due to the long working hours that miners endured, having access to a reliable source of hydration throughout the day was crucial. The high temperatures found underground made it essential to drink regularly in order to prevent dehydration. This particular type of metal bottle proved to be highly resistant to the harsh conditions encountered within the mines. Additionally, its metallic composition allowed it to maintain the temperature of the liquid inside for an extended period compared to other materials. Given that this specific model was used around the 1930s, it remains in remarkably good condition. Location: Nederlands Mijnmuseum, Heerlen (Limburg) Created by: Tolboom Quinten
