Minecraft Chess
thingiverse
I made this set for my buddy's kids to enjoy and get excited about chess. My objectives were straightforward - goal 1 was making the kids happy, goal 2 was introducing them to the world of chess, and goal 3 was having an excuse to be creative while augmenting the perfect game. I'm working on incorporating a set of rules that will utilize a Pocket-Tactics style dice mechanic for resolving encounters in chess, which will be included very soon. I realize I may have disregarded traditional chess and Minecraft standards in creating this set, so I apologize to any purists who might take issue with it - I just wanted to have fun making something imperfect yet cool. I'm really grateful to everyone at the Thingiverse for their Minecraft creations, which inspired me to modify and remixed several STLs from my resources. Check out the original creators if you want more STLs that influenced this set. Now onto the instructions: I printed all these pieces using the MakerWare high-quality default setting on ABS plastic, then gave them a fresh coat of spray paint for some vibrant colors. Glue was used to put some of the bits together, which wasn't too difficult, although I do want to give you a heads up - be careful not to superglue your fingers to the Wither because getting unstuck will definitely cause pain. Trust me on this one!
