When the Mining Guild requested to purchase bombers to break up larger asteroids from the Empire, the Empire saw the perfect opportunity to off-load their obsolete and aging TIE/gt's. The Mining guild TIE/gt was retrofitted with the notched wings of the TIE/mg to enhance visibility, at the cost of greatly diminished combat capabilities and maneuverability. The Mining guild TIE/gt was then renamed the TIE/at (asteroid-targeting) starfighter and sold on mass to the Guild.
