Mimbo - A Friendly Robot

thingiverse

Mimbo, a friendly robot that replicates emotions and expressions, has a cardboard body and an iPhone for its face. It was designed in Solidworks and crafted from a single sheet of cardboard through folding and hot-gluing. The iPhone display is controlled by a Processing script managing a TouchOSC interface. Face tracking is used to sense the user's emotions and mimic them. Full instructions for coding can be found here, while detailed directions for making Mimbo's body involve printing .DXF files, gluing the pattern onto cardboard, cutting it out with a sharp knife, and folding it correctly. Alternatively, you could lasercut the entire thing for perfection. Check out Mimbo in action at this YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=csYPpxBOBCA.
