The black kite, a majestic bird of prey with a wingspan that can reach up to three feet in length. A common sight in many parts of the world, this medium-sized raptor is known for its impressive hunting skills and scavenging abilities. The black kite's beak is strong and curved, perfect for grasping onto small mammals or birds. In the wild, these birds are often found near water sources such as rivers and lakes, where they can hunt for fish and other aquatic prey. A female black kite was recently spotted in La Noguera, Lleida, Spain on August 19th, 2005. This bird measures approximately 2.1 inches in length, with a mandible that is 50.9mm in depth and 35.7mm in width. Despite its relatively small size, the black kite is an incredibly powerful hunter, with sharp talons and eyesight that can spot prey from hundreds of feet away.
