With its first two operational satellites launching on February 14 and July 10, 1995, the military communications constellation currently includes a total of five high-capacity relay units placed into geosynchronous transfer orbit (GEO) orbits by United Launch Alliance (ULA) vehicles since April 23, 1986, at locations providing continuous access for coverage areas on earth ranging from near-polar latitudes to low-elevation targets.
