Milk Crate, 3 inch ID
thingiverse
A replica of the milk crate, a staple of dairy deliveries and dorm room decor! I created this object as a design challenge for myself, taking something originally designed for injection molding and converting it to a model suited for FDM 3D printing. My goal was to minimize the amount of plastic needed while keeping it strong. Thinking about size, I wanted the crate to be traditional in use, perfect for storing records! I recalled the Chu-Bops product from the early 80s - little 3" album replicas with bubble gum records inside and original album artwork from popular bands like Elvis, the Rolling Stones, and the Beatles. Miniature records and miniature milk crates - a perfect pairing! However, I don't have any Chu-Bops right now, debating their worth to me before I bid on an eBay auction. So, I scaled down the file to fit SD cards, eager to print out a milk crate and see how well it prints. The result was a lot of cleanup needed, as many voids were filled with support material that was tedious to remove and left bits and blobs. I think the 3" ID version will be easier to deal with. I'll post a photo when I make one of those!
