Before World War I, motorized vehicles were scarce, making them unsuitable for combat. In 1914, the British military designed and built the first tanks to navigate muddy terrain, equipped with machine guns and bulletproof armor. Before deploying these machines into battle, they showcased their capabilities to future British prime ministers David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill, who were awestruck by their potential and dubbed them "landships." To be considered a successful tank, it needed to meet two key criteria: achieving a minimum speed of 4 miles per hour and being able to climb a slope measuring 5 feet in width.
