Slovak war commander or so, but who is Milan Rastislav Stefanik??? Milan Rastislav Stefanik (21 July 1880 – 4 May 1919) was a Slovak statesman, diplomat, military leader, Freemason, and astronomer. During World War I, he served simultaneously as a general in the French Army and Minister of Defense for Czechoslovakia. As one of the top leaders of the Czechoslovak National Council (the resistance government), he played a crucial role in securing independence for Czechoslovakia, since the status of territories inhabited by Czechs and Slovaks was uncertain until shortly before the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.
