Mihai Eminescu, a renowned Romanian poet and writer, was born on January 15, 1850, in a small town called Mediaş. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential Romanian poets of all time, known for his unique blend of Romanticism and modernity. As a young man, Eminescu was an active member of the Junimea literary society and worked as an editor for the newspaper Timpul, which was the official publication of the Conservative Party. Eminescu's poetry was first published when he was just 16 years old, and by the time he was 19, he had already traveled to Vienna to study. His manuscripts, consisting of 46 volumes and approximately 14,000 pages, were gifted to the Romanian Academy in 1902 by Titu Maiorescu. Some of Eminescu's most notable works include Luceafărul, Odă în metru antic, and the five Letters (Epistles/Satires). His poetry often explores metaphysical, mythological, and historical subjects. Mediaş, a charming town in Romania, boasts one of the best-preserved historical centers in the country. The town's iconic Tower of the Buglers stands at an impressive 70 meters tall, with its construction dating back to the 13th century. The tower has undergone several transformations over the centuries, including the addition of five tiers in the 15th century. The St. Margaret Church, built around the same time as the tower, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. The city's strategic location at the crossroads of Transylvanian Saxons and other cultures has left an indelible mark on its history. Dozens of fortified churches can be found in the surrounding area, with two of them designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites. St. Margaret Church, a striking example of Gothic architecture, was built in 1488 and features an impressive tower that stands at 68.5 meters tall. Over time, the church has undergone several modifications, including the addition of three storeys and four smaller towers. The golden globe, dating back to 1550, is on display inside the church, along with a variety of other artifacts. The town's rich history is evident in its well-preserved medieval fortifications and historical center. Visitors can explore the Tower of the Buglers, St. Margaret Church, and other landmarks that showcase the region's unique cultural heritage.
