The Flying Flea (Louse of the Sky) is a large group of homebuilt airplanes that first took to the skies in 1933. The strange nickname stems from the French term for the Ford Model T, "Louse of the Road," which was given to Henry Ford's affordable automobile because it was ubiquitous and initially came only in black. A pioneer named Henri Mignet wanted to build an air vehicle equivalent of the Ford Model T, an airplane that ordinary people could afford and pilot. Hence the term Louse of the Sky, which later translated to Flying Flea in English. The name started as a nickname for the HM.14 model alone but is now used to describe the various aircraft from Mignet and others with similar designs (Source Wikipedia)
