The design for the electromechanical pressure switch features a diaphragm-activated momentary switch with both normally open and closed options. It enables efficient automation, eliminating manual assembly, and can be easily adjusted to alternate configurations. The switch offers differential, vacuum, and positive pressure options, with electrical connection choices of male quick connect (4.7 x 0.5 mm) and pin configurations. Automated calibration allows for adjustment of the pressure set point during testing. The ports interface accommodates 8mm flexible tubing diameter, and the pressure ranges are 15 to 40 Pa (low) and 30 to 160 Pa (high). The preferred main body size is 14 x 14 x 7mm, fitting within a 14x14x7 mm volume. Other parts fall within a maximum envelope of 25 x 25 x 7mm, except for an 8mm air nozzle, which may be resized or replaced. The design showcases core manufacturing technologies such as injection molding, stamping, assembly, tooling, machining, insert molding, and automation, utilizing accelerating manufacturing technologies and cost-effective materials. The development of a diaphragm-operated vacuum/pressure micro-switch allows setting sensitivity and normal operation for either vacuum or pressure via adjustment screws. The diaphragm is made of metal rubber elastomer, providing a low resistance of 1/10 ohm. The common quick connect makes direct contact with the rim of this diaphragm. The parts count has been reduced to six unique components (eight physical), down from the initial 13. Rivets have been replaced by heat-staking fastening for all components, including a glass-fill body. However, the weight of the product is not determinable due to unknown material densities and without added drafts and radii. Screws and air nozzles are placeholders to be replaced with standard materials used by Microtechnologies Inc. The diaphragm thickness will require adjustment based on further data regarding "Metal Rubber's" elastic properties. Lastly, the switch could fit into a snap-mount cradle for easy assembly.
