The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21, commonly called Fishbed by NATO, is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. Popularly nicknamed "balalaika" or "pencil" due to its planform resemblance to a Russian musical instrument or fuselage shape, this single-engine aircraft has been flown by over 60 countries across four continents. Serving nations for six decades since its maiden flight, the MiG-21 holds aviation records as the most-produced supersonic jet and combat aircraft since the Korean War. Notably, it was once owned by Indonesia's Air Force (AURI) in the form of a MiG-21F-13 interceptor fighter jet, known for its battle-proven capabilities that made it feared by the US and NATO in the 60s. However, piloting the MiG-21 was not an easy feat, as pilots faced challenges to maneuver this aircraft effectively.
