Middelgrundsfortet, formerly known as Fort Middelgrund and now officially referred to as Ungdomsøen or The Youth Island since 2015, is a highly advanced sea fort situated on an artificial island in the Øresund strait between Copenhagen's harbor and Malmö's coastline. This formidable fortress was strategically constructed at a spot where the seabed plunges to a depth of approximately seven meters below the water's surface, serving as the confluence point for the Kongedybet and Hollænderdybet channels. As the largest sea fortress in the world, Middelgrundsfortet still maintains its title as the biggest man-made island without any supporting structures, boasting an expansive area covering roughly 70,000 square meters when including wave breakers. The total built-up area of the fortress amounts to approximately 15,000 square meters. Images used for this article were sourced from publicly accessible archives at kortforsyningen.dk
