Middara 1.1 game organizer - books + core mini's!

Middara Act 1 Insert (Edition 1.1)

I tried a few of the existing designs however none met my goals of having something that could store the mini trays (painted models), keep the books insider, and focus on sleeving only the heavily shuffled cards (monster loot, initiative) and the adventurer giant cards.

Knowing how individual preferences vary, I also designed this using OpenScad via the Boardgame Insert Toolkit, so people can alter and regenerate the STL's from my design easily to meet their needs. Hate lids? remove them! Too flexible, remove the cutouts...

Features

Made for Middara 1.1 - fits everything from the core box plus cards from KS1 promo and resin kits. KS1/Resin models stored separately

Supports partial sleeving with a focus on shuffled cards (loot, initiative) + the character/combatant cards. In test - may support full sleeving

Lids to reduce chance of spilling tokens during setup, and moving of the box. Also helps protect other components from tray edges.

Designed for ease of setup and play, related components in same tray with finger cut outs for ease of access.

Optional Save trays - hold items for an associated character which speed up setup. Space for up to 3 trays, each with 2 save slots.

Designed with OpenScad and the modular Boardgame Insert Toolkit - if you don't like elements of the design, quickly change them and render new STL files for your remix!

Card Dividers - available as a separate thing, as they are not customizable. See here: Middara Act 1 Card Dividers (thing:4865939)

Notes

It fits..

All items from the Act 1 (v1.1) Box

Loot and initiative cards sleeved (mini American)

Adventurer/Esper/Combatant cards sleeved (large 5x6) - except hidden deck

Cards from the KS1 & 10 Resin boxes

With lift lid: Adventure book + Mini vac tray

Without lift lid: Adventure book or Mini vac tray

2 "Save" Trays, to accomodate 4 characters (Standard Euro/Mini American cards)

1 "Stash" Tray, to accomodate party shared loot (Standard/Mini cards)

It does NOT fit

Minis from the KS1 Promo box or Resin's

Sleeved Tarot Cards

Full sleeving of Standard Euro/Mini American cards - see notes for customizing this so they could fit.

What to Print

Print one of everything except:

Two of "Save Tray" & "Save Tray - Lid"

Two of "Card Mini Amer Tray" & "Card Mini Amer Tray lid"

Note:Lids - Only the "Standee Tray" , "Save Trays" and "Stash" must have lids, as they have items sat on them or sit sideways. Printing all the lids ensures many components are level and stops books drooping.

Printing Tips

Check you're happy with the lid fit after the first tray, it can be customized if not. The lids have notches, so lift the lids from the ends not the middle to open more smoothly.

Lids Colour - A single nozzle can still be used, by editing the gcode (available in Prusa slicer, or notepad) and using the M600 colour change command, and gcode for temperate/flow rate changes the colour can be switched mid print. I suggest printing 1 colour for layer 1, and changing to your alternate colour on layer 2 or 3.

Lids - The 5th layer (assuming 0.2mm layer height) uses briding between the perimeter pattern and words. For optimal printing ensure that the perimeters are all present around the pattern to support the bridging (I used 0.44mm extrusion width) and checked the view in my slicer. For best cooling, rotate the print so the bridges are aligned for best cooling (on my Prusa this is parallel to X axis).

Nozzle size - If you're in a rush, and don't mind layer lines then the trays are all printable with a 0.6mm nozzle.

Customization Tips

Check out the modular Boardgame Insert Toolkit for more details on configurable insert design

Each tray can be turned off/on for viewing/altering to speed up STL rendering

Placeholder "shapes" are available in the SCAD file (render them and export to STL) if you want to do your own customization and design.

Token Fit - The Tokens are a a snug fit and not too loose. This can be adjusted easily by altering the "compartments" of the trays, and increasing the box sizes. Please re-do a virtual test fit before printing if you do so.

Render Speed - Curved edges/patterns can take render times from seconds to minutes. There are global settings for disabling lids or setting them solid, to speed up "fit" testing.

Lids Style - The patterns can be altered, lid set to solid, or font changed. Non standard fonts can be added by including the .tff file in the same folder, and referencing in the load parameters. The lid style (inset with notches vs cap lid) can also be changed.

Lids Fitting - If the lids are too loose or too tight, there's a commented out parameter to change it.

Finger Cutouts - I added finger cutouts to reduce weight, though it makes some trays more flexible. They can be removed quickly based on preference.

Sleeving Standard Euro - The length of the Standard Euro tray was shortened by ~ 20mm to make room for Save Trays. This could be readded for sleeving if it seems tight, though you may need to reconfigure save trays to single slots (ie like the stash). Check the measurements of the cards in the OpenScad file notes.

Sleeving Mini American - This may fit all the cards sleeved, though please check sizes. One of the trays could likely be made deeper, though the dice tray would need shrinking to accomodate. Check the measurements of the cards in the OpenScad file notes.

Fit Testing - Tinker CAD was the easiest tool I found for importing all the STL's and doing a virtual fit test before printing.

Anything else?

The full list of measurements for Middara parts is in the comments at the bottom of the SCAD file

All the inserts have a different focus. Check out one from WingsOfDaidalos that has a different focus: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4857345 and also CaraRingtailfox: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4860303 .

Is it free?

Yes, as mentioned I included the OpenScad files, and used the Boardgame Insert Toolkit. If you make changes and share them please do upload as a remix of this design.

You are free however to send me a tip via thingiverse for a coffee if you found this useful.
