Midas is still infamous for his extravagant love of gold. As a proverbially wealthy king of Phrygia, who allegedly stumbled upon both black and white lead, he made history by being the first to make offerings at Delphi, with it said that he offered up the royal throne where he gave judgment. The throne was truly remarkable but if he had instead offered his own judgment, he would have come away empty-handed.
