Mid-20th Century Statue of Liberty Souvenir Model
cults3d
A simple souvenir model sold to tourists in the mid-20th century around the New York City area. The figure of the Statue of Liberty is a roughly molded copy of the same design as was utilized in the six-inch models sold by the American Committee in the 1880s to help raise funds for the construction of the pedestal for the Statue of Liberty. The pedestal under the goddess here is a later, different version from what the 1880s version would have been. Based on the appearance of the pedestal base, this souvenir was likely sold up until the mid to late 1960s as the base under the pedestal was concealed after the construction of the present-day two-tiered platform structure rising above the terreplein of Fort Wood. I thought this simple tschoke souvenir would be a fun bit of tacky Americana to share from my collection.
