My microwave exhaust fan expels hot air directly outside behind the stove. During winter months, chilly drafts seep in through these vents and flow down onto the cooktop below. The vent cover inserts neatly into the vent frame openings. And a magnetically secured "flag" situated next to the "Vent" control switch serves as a visual reminder that the vents are closed.
