Microwave ovens have a waveguide cover crafted from a thin sheet of mica material that allows microwave energy to enter the oven cavity while preventing food splashes from contaminating the waveguide. Over time, the mica sheet deteriorates and eventually requires replacement. Replacement parts are available for many models, but purchasing a sheet of mica and cutting it to fit is significantly more cost-effective. Searching for "microwave waveguide cover" yields numerous products available online. I own a GE JE1860GB microwave oven. The Microwave Waveguide Cover part number WB06X10162 is listed on Sears Parts Direct as discontinued. Amazon.com offers the part for $36, which I find excessive. On eBay, I acquired four 5.1-inch square "Microwave Cover Mica Wave Guide Sheet" products from China for $1.75 including shipping. I measured my microwave's waveguide cover and created a design in Inkscape. Using a Universal Laser Systems (ULS) PLS6.75 laser cutter, I successfully cut the mica sheet. The material "mica" is not listed in the PLS software's database; however, using "mat board" as an alternative yielded perfect results, which was a fortunate guess.
