Microwave (or whatever) knob
thingiverse
A rotating knob made of two parts designed as a replacement item for my microwave oven (Ignis AKL 540) that could also be suitable for other applications. Print Settings Rafts: No Supports: No Notes: Print both parts using the default orientation from the STL file. You don't need any support structure. I printed mine with ABS and a brim to avoid warping, but you can use any material strong enough for the expected effort. It's recommended that you print it with 100% infill for the same reason. The source files (Geomagic Design) are provided if you want to modify the part to fit your needs. Post-Printing Because there are two parts, the outer part can be post-processed separately. I smoothed mine using acetone vapors but do not repeat this process with the inner part or you may lose some dimensions. Warning: Acetone is potentially hazardous and requires proper ventilation. The raw knob just out of the printer. Disclaimer: This description of how I smoothed my knob is for informational purposes only. If you're not familiar with acetone vapor smoothing, please research it before proceeding. I placed a ceramic glass upside down in a bowl as an acetone-resistant item. The bowl was filled with about 1 cm of acetone, and then the part was carefully dropped inside using cardboard. I left some extra structure on the cardboard to help pulling the part out when finished. I kept an eye on what was happening inside the bowl and pulled the part out when I was satisfied with the result. The processing time can vary greatly depending on temperature and size of the bowl, among other factors. It's crucial that you do not touch the part at this point because its surface is extremely delicate. Leave it to dry in a well-ventilated area for a few hours.
