Design Challenge: Create Affordable, Easy-to-Assemble Housing Unit for Evaluating Microscope Optics. Justification: The easily modifiable design allows for the use of various size and focal length lenses, enabling modification for low- or high-powered magnification. This tool's versatility spans education in biology or physics to practical field applications. Furthermore, the materials required for construction are affordable and easily replaceable, ensuring long-term usability. Design Features: • The easily removable optics workbench enables experimentation with various lenses and lens configurations at different positions and focal distances. • A movable stage allows further adjustments in distance between specimen and objective lens. • A rotating mirror aligns sunlight through the stage. • An adjustable aperture controls the amount of light coming through the specimen. • A sliding drawer in the base provides storage for slides and samples (additional file). • Tension bars maintain position. • Many design aspects can be easily removed and replaced if broken. • An alignment tool ensures correct angling during assembly and leveling optics. Changeable Parts: • The size of lenses in optics pieces • The number of lens pieces Included Files: • Design for housing unit (.svg) • Design for additional drawers for base (.svg) • Instructional drawings (.pdf) • Written instructions with pictures (.pdf) • Pictures of completed unit (.jpg) • Video of particular design aspects: https://youtu.be/JIwJpVcMr1Y Design Based on 1/8 Inch (3mm) Material.
