After downloading http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:78071 and finding it a bit too large for my microscope, and also somewhat complicated and insecure, I decided to create my own model for a 30mm tube/eyepiece, using significantly fewer parts. The central part is a clamp that wraps around a 30mm tube/eyepiece, featuring a section for vertical adjustment. It tightens down with two M3x12mm screws and nuts. If other diameter clamps are requested, I can design those as well. The other two components are what holds the phone in place; they're simple clamps, the main part has horizontal adjustment, and attaches to the main clamp using two M3x6mm screws and nuts. The other part of the clamp connects to this component with two M3x30mm screws that thread directly into the 3D printed piece. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: 0.3mm Infill: 10% Notes: I printed this with black PLA at 235 C on a MakerBot Replicator 2, using 10% infill, 0.3mm resolution, and rafts. Other settings are default. Examine the image for details on how to position the parts on the build table; no supports are required. Post-Printing Assembly 1: Attach two M3 nuts to phone-holder-1.stl. 2: Screw in two M3x6mm screws loosely through microscope-clamp-30mm.stl into nuts on phone-holder-1.stl. 2a: Ensure the orientation is correct for your phone's camera location; the clamp side should be positioned on the same side as the phone's camera. 3: Screw in two M3x30mm screws through phone-holder-2.stl. 4: Position the phone on phone-holder-1.stl at desired height. 5: Attach phone-holder-2.stl to phone-holder-1.stl to secure the phone. 6: Slide the assembly over the microscope eyepiece/tube. 7: Screw in two M3x12mm screws through the clamp into nuts to secure the assembly. 8: Enjoy your newly upgraded microscope!
