An improved version of this adapter can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:216821. You are recommended to use the newer version for better results. The simple adapter is designed to hold a Logitech Quickcam Pro for Notebooks in the right position on a microscope for recording videos and still images of objects under the microscope. It works with any microscope, but the lens needs to be held a few millimeters above the eyepiece lens. The holder grips the aluminum piece that the eyepiece slides into, making it easy to adjust the camera/adapter position for optimal results. If needed, use a rubber band to hold the camera more tightly to the adapter. GUVCViewer on Ubuntu 13.04 can be used to view the results and capture videos and images. The setup allows for 940x720 video at 15 fps. A test video can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/80511761. An adapter for a GoPro camera is also available, but it has a wide field of view that captures only a small portion of the microscope image in the center of the field. An additional lens would be required to use a GoPro for this purpose. Microscope eyepiece and tube diameters are not standardized, so you may need to tweak the design to fit your microscope. The adapter was designed by holding the camera up to the eyepiece while viewing video on a computer, measuring the eyepiece and tube diameters, and designing a mount that holds the camera with a loose-fitting tube over the eyepiece while gripping the eyepiece tube. The Logitech camera used has an unusual shape, but other cameras with easier shapes to design around and better video performance are available. The part was designed using Sketchup, exported as .stl, sliced with Slic3r, printed with support material using 1.75mm Coex3d blue ABS on the MegaMax printer at Milwaukee Makerspace with 0.2mm layer thickness and 35% infill.
