Microscope Adapter for Droid Turbo Phone

After crafting web cam adapters for my microscopes and telescope, I decided to create adapters that enable me to mount a much higher resolution camera on my phone directly onto these optical instruments. This is the first design in a series. This adapter allows me to attach my phone to the eyepiece and capture extremely high-resolution photos (21 Mp) and even 4k video through the microscope lens. It was designed and printed as two parts that glue together after printing, minimizing the amount of support material required. Video samples can be viewed here: The "tube" can easily be modified in length and diameter to fit any optical instrument I want to use. Note that the tube is mounted on the aluminum part of the scope just below the eyepiece (marked by a red arrow), not directly on the eyepiece itself. To modify the tube for your specific scope, hold your phone up to the eyepiece and observe where it forms a good, full-view image. Make a note of the distance from the eyepiece to the camera lens, then measure the scope's eyepiece tube diameter and length. Use that diameter as the inside diameter of the tube, and pull the tube's length up to match the measurement of the scope's eyepiece tube length. Be sure to leave a few mm in the length to move the camera back and forth for optimal image quality when mounted on the scope. My droid turbo phone camera has some pincushion distortion in its optics that becomes apparent when taking pictures with straight lines running across the field of view, but they aren't overly bothersome.
