I'm excited to share my latest creation, a series of realistic wooden puzzle-like dinosaurs that I've been working on for over two years. After refining the details and printing them last year, I decided to add some finishing touches before sharing them with everyone. The design is based on multiple skeletal reconstructions and images from fossils, so it's not a single Microraptor species. The size of the models is scaled at 1:1 for the smallest species, M. zhaoianus, which is roughly the same size as a pigeon. I've included .dxf files for the silhouettes, allowing you to use them with CNC machines on 3mm thick plaques (MDF, aluminum, or any other material). You can scale up the sketches by 183.34% for a 5mm plaque, 300% for a 9mm plaque, or 400% for a 12mm thick plaque. Some details like teeth may not be suitable for CNC milling cutters but can be carved with laser cutters. I want to note that this model has never been tested with CNC, laser, or milling machines; it's only been printed using 3D printing technology. If you try any of these methods, please share your results. The dinosaur is depicted in a gliding pose, and I recommend hanging it from the hip for better viewing. Although most joints can be assembled easily, it's essential to have good leveling on the hot bed to avoid tight or loose joints that may make assembly difficult. I've used heat silicone (hot glue, HMA) for the displayed model, but some details are intentionally wrong, such as the double sternum, to make assembly easier. I recommend gluing the joints for added strength. Microraptor is famous for being one of the first known four-winged dinosaurs. It's believed that it could fly, but its muscles and wing anatomy were too weak compared to modern or early flying birds, making it likely a developed glider. One of the few fossil species whose color has been partially deduced is Microraptor, which was iridescent black, similar to crows.
