Microphone Module I2S Interface Case
thingiverse
I built this project to house a microphone module for capturing audio signals from the environment. The omnidirectional microphone module in question can be found on eBay at https://www.ebay.com/itm/Omnidirectional-Microphone-Module-I2S-Interface-INMP441-MEMS-Low-Power-for-ESP32/274119515372. To set up this project, I plan to place the microphone module underneath a bee hive to monitor for swarm indications. For more information on this setup, see https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/raspberry-pi564/forums/general/topic:40633. To protect the module from the elements, I recommend using thin plastic from a grocery bag as a shield. Simply trim off any excess material and secure it with electric tape around the seam. The stem is designed to accommodate a 3/8" hole (10mm). If you're looking for enclosures to house your Raspberry Pi setup, consider checking out these options on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3970641 and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3894010. To get started with the project, follow the Adafruit tutorial at https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-i2s-mems-microphone-breakout/raspberry-pi-wiring-and-test. Note that I skipped the rpi-update step in this process. Once you've completed the setup, you can use the following command to stream audio: vlc -vvv alsa://dmic_sv --sout '#transcode{acodec=ulaw}:rtp{sdp=rstp://:8554}'. This will make the audio available at rtsp://your.Pi.IP.address:8554/. Keep in mind that you'll need to install VLC media player on your Raspberry Pi for this to work. Also, be aware that this module won't function properly if Pigpio is running. However, it's possible to modify the code to make them work together; I just haven't tested it yet.
