Microjig GRR-RIPPER Gravity Heel Kit
thingiverse
I've taken on the challenge of creating a custom heel kit for my MicroJig push block. It operates with precision, mirroring the original version's functionality. The heel can be locked into any position and adjusted downward to a specific length using gravity, thanks to the adjustable knob. For those seeking guidance, I recommend checking out YouTube tutorials on how to utilize this feature effectively. My heel kit's drop is limited to 1 inch / 25mm. To replicate this design, you'll need to acquire three components that cost me a total of $2.48. Firstly, you'll require a 1/4" 20TPI x 1.5" carriage bolt from Home Depot for $0.20. Be sure to grind down the head using a grinder or file to ensure a smooth fit. Next, grab a matching 1/4" 20TPI nut from HD for $0.08. Lastly, procure a spring with specific dimensions: .8mm thickness, 8mm outer diameter, and 15mm length (0.8X8X15mm). I sourced mine from AliExpress for $2.20, including shipping – though it took a few weeks to arrive. If I had to order again, I might opt for the 20mm version, but the 15mm spring works perfectly fine. In total, these components should cost under $3.00. When fully retracted, the heel sits approximately 1mm above the surface plane.
