Cyprideis pannonica is a species that belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, which was first described by Siebold and Stannius in 1845. This classification places Cyprideis pannonica within the class Crustacea, as defined by Pennant in 1777. Further categorization identifies it as part of the subclass Ostracoda, established by Latreeille in 1806, and within the order Podocopida, which was classified by Müller in 1894. The family Cytherideidae is attributed to Sars in 1925, with the subfamily Cytherideinae also recognized under Sars' classification in 1925. The genus Cyprideis is credited to Jones in 1857, and within this genus, Cyprideis pannonica is identified as a species described by Méhes in 1908. This specimen was found in sediments from the Middle Miocene period, approximately 11 million years old, collected from an outcrop in north-east Romania.
