Microfauna Trap
thingiverse
This trap captures microorganisms, including nematodes and tardigrades, also known as water bears. Nematodes are tiny creatures that inhabit every corner of the planet. A single foot of topsoil can harbor up to 3 billion nematodes. To use this trap: Assemble it just like in the picture. Fill it with tap water or distilled water. If your tap water is high in chlorine, use distilled instead. Don't add salt unless you're sampling from a marine environment (see photo 1). Add a small damp soil sample to the trap on filter paper or tissue (photo 2). Fold the paper over (photo 3). Place the trap under a light source. Wait for 24 hours to pass. Sample the water by removing the threaded cap.
