Microcosm: Eldritch Sandworms of the Deep
prusaprinters
<p>These are display models of <i>Musellifer profundus </i>Vivier 1974, a deep-sea gastrotrich. This worm is frequently encountered in the vast plains of the ocean bottom, from shallow coastal waters to the deepest depths. Members of this species are smaller than many single-celled organisms (including <i>Paramecium</i> and other ciliates), but consist of roughly 1000 cells, have a sophisticated brain, and a complex muscular system.</p><p>The heavy miniaturization has convergently occured in many groups of the Meiofauna: Sediment-dwelling microscopic animals.</p><p>The model is best printed with some supports. It is designed to be mounted on a 13mm (⌀ 4.6 mm) nail. The model of the stand can be downloaded <a href="https://www.printables.com/model/220345-microcosm-c-elegans-king-of-the-worms/files">here</a>.</p><h3>Taxon Overview</h3><figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td>Species</td><td><i>Musellifer profundus</i> Vivier, 1974</td></tr><tr><td>Phylum</td><td>Gastrotricha</td></tr><tr><td>Size</td><td>ca. 200 µm</td></tr><tr><td>Diet</td><td>Bacteria, diatoms</td></tr><tr><td>Habitat</td><td>Seabed, between sand grains (interstitial)</td></tr><tr><td>Occurence</td><td>Cosmopolitan</td></tr></tbody></table></figure><h3>Print Settings</h3><figure class="table"><table><tbody><tr><td>Filament</td><td>FormFutura ReForm white</td></tr><tr><td>Printer</td><td>Prusa Mini +</td></tr><tr><td>Slicer</td><td>Prusaslicer 2.4.0</td></tr><tr><td>Preset</td><td>0.15mm QUALITY</td></tr><tr><td>Infill</td><td>0%</td></tr><tr><td>Margins</td><td>3</td></tr><tr><td>Supports</td><td>Painted on</td></tr></tbody></table></figure><p> </p>
