The Micro City project was a challenging four-week endeavor that leveraged city skylines to assess students' mastery of perspective modeling techniques. To kick off the project, students randomly selected a U.S. city and delved into research on iconic buildings and varied skyline vistas, allowing them to develop their own distinct perspective. As design guidelines and strict size constraints (100mm L x 100mm W x 100mm H) were clearly established, students worked tirelessly to craft 3D models consistent in dimensions. Thanks to Tinkercad's web-based platform, instructors can seamlessly assign the designing task as homework, reserving limited classroom time for instruction on operating the 3D printer and addressing potential technical issues that may arise during printing. Throughout the project duration, students were expected to submit regular progress checks, ensuring they remained on track and on deadline. Upon completing the exhaustive project checklist, the staging process commenced, expertly preparing each 3D model for successful printing. As the students' meticulously crafted models materialized before their eyes, it was nothing short of thrilling to witness their pride and enthusiasm when displaying their intricate, exact replicas of iconic city skylines: a true testament to their precision and skill.
