Micro RC SR-71
cults3d
The lightest 3D printed twin in the world with regards to wing loading. 25g/dm². Been working on this since March 2020. I have over 200 hours into it. A good portion was teaching myself how to accomplish what I wanted with Solidworks. Another good portion was figuring out the design as the SR-71 and A-12 are still top secret and 3 views don't really match up. It looks more like an A-12, but actually it's neither. Took a lot of looking at photos to get it this close. This smaller version has some design changes from the original also to make it easier to print, and better to fly. I am extremely pleased how it it looks and performs. Having said that it is an SR-71 and it needs to flown like an SR-71. It is not going to fly like an Ultrix. It loves to go fast. It will loop and roll. It will not "flare" on landing. It's printed in LW PLA. First version was a bit larger and heavier in white. It flew ok. I painted it black and it melted in the sun while it was flying (like flying a wet noodle). Black was also very hard to orientate. I made a scaled down version and changed some settings and got the printed parts down to 20grams. That's lighter than the Ultrix air-frame by 15 grams! AUW is 45 grams minus battery. This plane prints single perimeter. you cut the openings afterwards. It is very easy to cut in the openings. I am making a build video explaining it and will add it soon. The body prints in 3 pieces plus the elevators and motor mounts. Glue the pieces together and paint, then make your cuts. It prints in about 3 hours, and builds after painting in about 2 hours. You will need an Ultrix power system, or try and rig some micro RC gear in there. I hope I see some different variations of this bird. You will need the running gear from a UMX UTRIX, but you may be able to use standard motors, esc, receiver. Let me know if you do!
