Micro Mesh pad storage/drying stand
thingiverse
As a skilled wood turner, I often rely on micro mesh pads during the finishing process to remove scratches that conventional sanding leaves behind. These pads are used with water and one major challenge I faced was keeping them in order while allowing them to dry after use. The initial solution I implemented was my wet sanding station, which combined a storage area for the pads with a built-in water reservoir to keep them moist and remove slurry generated during sanding. Although many appreciated this design, some users wanted to separate the water reservoir from the pad holder. To address this need, I came up with an alternative solution. The unit is designed with each micro mesh pad having its own dedicated compartment. Each compartment has a floor that slopes towards the center, which opens into a space below. This allows excess water on the pads after wet sanding to drain away from them. To keep shop dust out of the pads when not in use, the holder includes a slot for printing a matching top. The top fits snugly over the pads, preventing them from falling out of their compartments. For added stability and ease of handling, I included recesses in each corner for you to embed four 2mm x 6mm magnets into both the top and base - eight magnets total. This creates a secure hold, allowing you to pick up the unit by its top without worrying about it disassembling.
