micro cord spool
thingiverse
I'd rather gnaw on tin foil and staples than untangle cord! Unless you're someone who enjoys standing around, snapping yourself in the groin with a rubber band, then I know we feel the same way. When I hike in the wilderness, I suspend my food sack to keep bears, raccoons, and mice out of my pack. This compact spool was designed to coil up and store half a roll of micro cord in my backpack (holds about 70ft). That seems sufficient to get the hang rope as high as I can toss it. You could use this spool to carry any small cord for emergency situations or otherwise. It's ideal for fishing line, spare fly line, snare wire, clothesline, seizing twine, or snare wire. Rather than adding a knob or peg to wind the cord, which would probably break off, I inserted a small hole in the spool base. Just poke a little stick in and wind away. For ultralight backpackers, this weighs 27 grams without the cordage (1.0 oz for imperial guys), which will be slightly lighter than the bundle of paracord I currently use to hang my bear bag.
