Michelle Morosini was born in Venice around 1670 to a respected Patrician family. They appointed him Senator and Knight of the Golden Cloak for his remarkable contributions to the Serenissima. Michelle reformed the Patavinum Academy, supporting brilliant men of letters and culture. He gained admiration from renowned cultural figures of his time, including Papadopoli, Facciolati, Graziani, and Arrighi. Michelle passed away in 1751. The statue, a masterpiece by Paduan sculptor Luigi Verona, was commissioned by his son Lorenzo, the Procurator of St. Mark, and erected in 1785.
