Michelangelo, Mike or Mikey - commonly referred to as such by his fans, is a beloved fictional character and one of four heroic protagonists in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and all associated media. Typically, his iconic mask appears orange outside of Mirage/Image Comics, while he wields dual nunchucks as his primary weapon, although other armaments have been showcased over time, including grappling hooks, manriki-gusari, tonfa, and three-section staffs in certain action figures. More carefree than his brothers, Michelangelo was given a more prominent role in the 1987 animated series, designed for younger audiences, compared to the original comic books which were geared towards older readers. He frequently coins memorable catchphrases, such as "Cowabunga!" Like all of the brothers, he is named after a renowned Renaissance artist; specifically, he is named after Michelangelo Buonarroti. Variations in spelling occur across different sources, and he has been depicted under both Michelangelo and Michaelangelo monikers.
